In honor of
Detlef Gromoll
on the occasion of his
60th birthday
Stony Brook 1998
The work of Detlef Gromoll has profoundly influenced the
study of Riemannian geometry in the second half of the
20th century.
He has made fundamental, often seminal, contributions
to a broad range of subjects, including, closed
geodesics, positive curvature, nonnegative curvature,
nonpositive curvature, Ricci curvature, rigidity theory,
submanifold theory and Riemannian foliations. His results,
many of which are widely regarded as ``classics''
are certain to be of lasting interest and significance.
