Course Description:

Basic point set topology: connectedness, compactness, continuity, etc. Metric spaces, function spaces, and topological manifolds. Introduction to algebraic topology: fundamental group and covering space, homology, applications.


Textbook: Topology (2nd Ed.), by James R. Munkres, Prentice Hall, 2000.

Additional reference, which we use weekly: Christian Schnell's MAT 530 lecture notes.


Grading: Homework accounts for 40% of the total grade; the Midterm is worth 20% of the total grade; the Final is worth 40% of the total grade.

Homework:
